A few times in my career, I've had a painting that just didn't work, a case of "artist block". This art changed the focus of my career which led to some of the best works I ever did, including the Sailor Senshi Series, particularly the Zodiacs, and the pinup work, which continues to improve with each passing year...
It was a simple fantasy story of magic, sorcery and swordplay, and I came up with an idea farily quickly and easily.
I then had trouble getting her face right. I had the finished art sent back, and, got caught into a strange loop of over drawing, fussing over the features. In the end, the art never got used.
This, and similar events at DA, in the early days of my fanart, led to a resolve to improve my female figure drawing. Consequently, the recent digital upgrade took about 1 hour, what had been a 2 day struggle in 2002.
